(NOTE: Once you register a team at USFIRST ($25 for the team) you will be able to download several files, including the Coach's Manual. In it is a full "suggested outline" for 7 meetings of 1 1/2 hours each. It's a great resource and makes getting into JrFLL a breeze!)
Each week have a snack, do a team building activity of some sort and do something on research and model building.
Research:
Talk about the challenge
Brainstorm snacks kids like to eat
Figure out how to make those snacks (ingredients and process)
Go on a field trip
Make the snack if it's a recipe
Talk about all the ways to keep the snack safe -- growing the specific ingredients, transportation of the ingredients, storage, store items, things you do at home to keep it safe and what you're keeping it safe from (each student can do one part and report back the next week)
Put together a "Show Me" board
-- one area highlighting each student
-- all the areas researched
Research/model building
Play with the LEGO's available
Build a mini model that has a moving part
Do small things each week to get them used to building on task and with each other
Build a model of one of the areas of how to keep our snack safe -- needs to fit on base plate and have at least one moving part
Present at a JrFLL event
(including at the NC Regional on Nov 12 or 19th at SE Raleigh High School)
